How to Make Your Own Elmo Card

Elmo is the red furry lovable little monster from Sesame Street with the high-pitch voice. An Elmo card is a thoughtful way to let the Elmo-loving children in your life know that you are thinking about their birthday, for Christmas or any other special occasion. An Elmo card is simple enough for even the most novices of crafters to successfully construct.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour your red crush velvet flock onto a paper plate.

    • 2

Paint a thin coat of white craft glue on the front of your card with a foam brush. Completely cover the front of the card with the glue.

    • 3

Press the glue-covered front of the card into the flock on the paper plate. Lift the card and tap it down on the plate to tap off any loose flock. Press flock into any areas on the card that did not get covered the first time around. Let the card dry for an hour.

    • 4

Glue two 25 mm craft eyes to the front of the card one-third of the way down the card with the card vertically oriented. Space the eyes 1 and 1/2 inches apart.

    • 5

Cut your foam egg in half vertically using a butter knife. Paint the curved surface of the half egg with craft glue. Place the half egg onto a piece of orange felt with the glue side facing down. Pull and stretch the felt so it wraps the front of the half egg. Trim the felt so there is 1/2 inch extra felt to wrap around to the back side of the half egg. Use hot glue to secure that extra felt to the backside of the half egg.

    • 6

Secure the orange-felt-wrapped half egg to the front of the card with hot glue. Orient the half egg vertically with the narrow end on top and the wide end on the bottom. This will create Elmo's nose.

    • 7

Use black fabric puff paint to draw a crescent shape on the front of the card for Elmo's mouth. Fill in the crescent shape with the puff paint.

Tips & Warnings

  • Substitute red glitter for the red crushed velvet flock for a flashier card.
