Christmas means "family" for many people. Families gather together during the holidays each year to engage in old and new traditions. Adults share memories of their childhood Christmases while children are making new ones. You can preserve and pass on these memories through photo Christmas ornaments. Digital cameras and home printing make creating a few of these ornaments as gifts or keepsakes for family members easier than ever. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry your preserves lids to eliminate dust, oil and residue that may ruin your project or prevent the glue from sticking properly. These lids have no center; they look like large rings with shallow edges.

    • 2

Cut a circle of clear plastic that fits perfectly in the back of your lid. Do the same with your photo and a second piece of plastic. Glue the first sheet of plastic to the inside of the back of the lid, glue down the photo next and then the last sheet of plastic. This way, your photo is protected. Let the glue dry for an hour.

    • 3

Run a bead of white glue around the front edge of your jar lid. Press the edge of your lace or wire ribbon into the glue. Let the glue dry for about 20 minutes.

    • 4

Add a second bead of glue right on the inside edge of the jar, next to the picture. Press a length of decorative cord into the glue. Let both the cord and ribbon dry overnight.

    • 5

Cut a 6 inch piece of 1/4-inch-wide ribbon. Fold it into a loop and dot the ends with a little glue. Press the ends against your ornament right over the top of your picture. This creates a loop to hang your ornament. Let the glue dry for at least an hour.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use different kinds of lids for different size ornaments. Plastic container lids, juice bottle lids, and even small paper plates make perfect frames for photo ornaments.

  • Create a family scrapbook ornament collection as a gift.

  • Print photos in sepia tone for an heirloom look.
