How to Transfer a Credit Card to an ATM

Most banks allow customers to use a credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM.

A checking account ATM card is generally issued so customers can access cash from their checking accounts through an ATM machine, while debit and credit cards can be used instead of cash for purchases in a store or online. Many credit cards can also be used for cash withdrawals at ATM machines, although fees are usually associated with the practice. However, if you need cash and only have credit card funds available, using your credit card at an ATM machine is possible.

Instructions

1. Review the materials mailed to you when you first received your credit card. Verify that your credit card account allows cash withdrawals, and make note of your cash withdrawal limit.

2. Memorize the ATM personal identification number assigned to your credit card. If you don't see a PIN number listed in your original paperwork, call the phone number listed on the back of your credit card and ask that it be mailed to you. You can also request over the phone that a new PIN number be assigned. Every card company has its own policy regarding PIN numbers, and the customer service representative can notify you of the correct procedure for your lender.

3. Verify the locations of ATMs that accept your credit card. Credit cards often have logos noted on them that match the logos labeled on the ATMs that accept those cards. Ask your credit card's customer service representative, use the automated search by phone feature or check online to find ATM locations, as advised in your credit card agreement.

4. Visit an ATM. Enter your PIN number when prompted. Accept or decline any fees associated with the cash withdrawal. Enter the amount of funds you'd like to withdraw. Take your cash.
