How to Export a VB 6.0 Data Report Into PDF or Word

Visual Basic 6.0 is an application that allows you to create Windows-based applications using a variation of the Basic programming language. You can assign a database to the backend of the application that will hold the data used in the programs that you create. "Data Reports" in Visual Basic 6 (VB 6.0) are a quick way to view your data in report form. Export your "Data Report" to a Word or PDF format to allow others to view, format, customize, save and print the reports.

  • Open the project in Visual Basic 6 that has the Data Report that you want to convert.

  • Double click on the Data Report from the list of items in the VB project. The Data Report opens with export and print capabilities.

  • Click on "Export" and choose a location to save the exported Data Report in.

  • Type in a name for the exported document in the "File Name" field of the "Export" dialog box. To export as a Word document, enter a filename with the "doc" or "docx" file extension, or use the file extension "pdf" for a PDF document. For instance, type in "example.docx" to export the document in Word 2007/2010, "example.doc" for an earlier version of Word or "example.pdf" for a PDF document.

  • Click "Export" to finish exporting the document. Double click on the document from its saved location to open it in either Word or a PDF reader. A prompt may appear to install extra features to be able to read the document in the chosen program. Click "No." Once the document has been opened for the first time, click "File" or the "Office" button and then "Save As" to avoid seeing the prompt in the future.
