The Location of the Knock Sensor of a 1993 Chevrolet K5 Blazer

The knock sensor on the 1993 Chevrolet K5 Blazer tells the computer when there is pre-ignition -- a pinging or knocking in the engine -- so that the computer can make adjustments to the timing. If a malfunctioning knock sensor is not replaced, the truck will have high emissions, you will hear the pinging -- or if pre-ignition is really bad, a knocking -- and the vehicle will have poor gas mileage. The engine light will come on. If you leave the malfunctioning knock sensor in long enough, internal engine damage will result.

    • 3

Note that the sensor has a round body, with a hexagon-shaped piece near the middle of the sensor. The hexagon part allows you to unscrew the knock sensor from the head, using a wrench.
