1
Install a battery into the back of the CO2 detector. Remove the battery cover and install a battery based on the design of the detector. Place the battery securely in the battery compartment and replace the cover.
-
2
Position a CO2 detector on each level of the home. Place the detector near bedroom doors or between bedrooms so the alarm can be easily heard during the night if necessary.
-
-
3
Place the CO2 detector near an electrical outlet if the model is equipped with a power cord. Use electricity to power the detector and rely on the battery as backup. Avoid relying on the battery for power if a cord is attached for electrical hook-up.
-
4
Install the CO2 detector on a wall or set it on a table or countertop. Choose a location that will allow for the alarm to be easily heard. Position detectors with digital read-outs that can be easily seen to read CO2 levels.
-
5
Locate the detector at least 15 feet from cooking surfaces and sources of heat such as space heaters. Small amounts of carbon monoxide can be produced regularly during operation of certain appliances.
