How to Reduce Comcast Cable Costs

Budget-conscious consumers everywhere have tricks up their sleeves when it comes to cutting costs. Clipping coupons, shopping in bulk and dining in more often are just a few examples. Other cost-saving techniques may include creating a budget for expenses above living costs.



Money used toward magazine subscriptions, games purchased for gaming devices (e.g. Wii, XBox 360, Playstation 3) and even cable and Internet services should also be considered when saving for travel, education or other important purchases.

1. Look for promotional offers.

   Comcast runs online and local promotions each month in combinations such as the "Triple Play," which provides savings on Cable TV, Internet service and voice. Promotional offerings may vary by service area and often apply to "new residential customers" for a period up to one year.

   Pricing can range from $99.99 each month to over $200, depending on the Internet speed and number of premium channels you add. All pricing is as of November 2010.

2. Keep it basic.

   At the time of this writing, Comcast offers basic cable for as low as $10.25 per month, depending on the city services connected. This can be a huge monthly savings if you are looking to save for a vacation or pay off a few bills. Even downgrading your service to include less premium channels can provide savings.

3. Eliminate unused cable boxes.

   If you have one cable box in each room, including rooms that are rarely used, such as your home gym, a guest room or your newborn's room, consider returning one or more of these devices to Comcast. This will save the costs incurred by renting the unused equipment.

4. Limit Pay-Per-View use.

   Engage the parental controls on all your cable boxes to prevent unauthorized access to Pay-Per-View services. In addition, to allow for occasional living room movie nights, include future Pay-Per-View purchases in your monthly budget so additional spending is done within your means.
