How to Remove Rust From Chrome Rims
Rust is caused by oxygen and moisture. On chrome rims, it can make the shiny metal look dirty, even when it is not. Rust eventually will damage and weaken a chrome rim if you don't remove it. This task takes time and patience but the result is worth the effort.
Things You'll Need
- Fine steel-wool pad
- Rubber gloves
- WD-40
- Garden hose
- Naval jelly
- Soft cloth
Instructions

1
Dampen a fine steel-wool pad and gently rub it over the spots. Surface rust on chrome may come off with this method alone.
-
2
Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands. Spray WD-40 over the rust spots. WD-40 will work to loosen light rust on chrome and other metals.

3
Rub the spots again with the steel-wool pad. If the WD-40 appears to be working on the rust, continue spraying and rubbing until all is removed and then rinse the rims with clean water from a hose. If rust is resistant, rinse and dry the rims, and continue to the following step.

4
Apply naval jelly to the rust spots, as advised by Bloom Bike Shop. Allow it to sit on the rust for 10 minutes.
-
5
Rinse the naval jelly off the chrome rims with water from a hose. Buff the rims dry with a soft cloth.
