Fix a Leaking Kenmore Dishwasher

Although Kenmore dishwashers are built to retain water and not leak, there are some instances when you may find water on the floor near the dishwasher. While a leaky dishwasher could be a big concern, the good news is that water on the floor near the dishwasher is not typically caused by a hole or improper design--rather it is caused by carelessness. There are several actions you can take if there is a leak around your dishwasher. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the dishwasher is on a hard and level surface. If there are items underneath the dishwasher -- such as towels, uneven flooring or other items -- the dishwasher is likely not completely level. This un-level setting causes the dishwasher to tilt. As the dishwasher tilts -- even if slightly -- it provides water a way to escape from the inside of the appliance. Remove any items from under the dishwasher that may cause it not to be level.

    • 2

Measure the detergent accurately and only use the type of detergent that Kenmore recommends you use. Too many suds in the wash can cause the dishwasher to overflow. If your home has soft water, use less detergent to avoid an increase in suds levels. Use another brand of detergent if there continue to be too many suds.

    • 3

Do not overfill the rinse aid compartment and ensure that the lid is securely attached to avoid potential leaks.

    • 4

Wait a moment after opening the dishwasher door in the middle of a cycle. Opening the door all the way immediately does not give the dishwasher enough time to completely shut off the water jets. Open the door slightly at first, wait a moment, then open the door the rest of the way.
