The Times New Roman typeface has been around since 1932 when it first appeared in The Times of London newspaper. Microsoft packaged the typeface with Windows 3.1 more than sixty years later. Times New Roman is available for purchase from Ascender Corporation in standard, bold, bold italic and italic formats. If your Times New Roman font files have become corrupt because of a system crash, virus or other malfunction of your computer, you can legally replace the damaged files without repurchasing them.

Instructions

  1. Obtain Good Copies

      Select "Start," and then "Control Panel." Next click on "Appearance and Personalization" and then "Fonts" on your friend's computer.

      Locate "Times New Roman" and right-click. Select "Copy."

      Insert a USB memory stick into your friend's computer. Once open, right-click and select "Paste."

    Repair the Corrupt Files

      Select "Start," and then "Control Panel." Next click on "Appearance and Personalization" and then "Fonts" on your computer.

      Insert your USB memory stick into your computer. Select the four Times New Roman font files and drag and drop them onto the fonts folder.

      Select "Yes" if asked: "Do you want to replace it?"

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not try to delete the corrupt Times New Roman font files, as they are protected system files.
