How to Keep Your Collector Car Alive
Car maintenance is critical in keeping your vehicle in top shape, and classic cars require more care than your average automobile. Due to their old age, general delicacy and the fact that they are usually not subjected to the rigors of daily use, classic cars have a higher potential for problems. You can keep your collector car alive and protect it with a few simple maintenance tips, all of which can usually be conducted over the course of a single day.

1
Drive your classic car at least once every month. Driving a car keeps the fluids distributed evenly and prevents the tires from rotting in place. You may find that simply driving the car once or twice a month makes it more responsive to cold starts and easier to manage in general.
-
2
Check the fluids on your vehicle before and after every drive. Classic cars are more prone to developing leaks and losing fluid, so regular checks are necessary to prevent possible engine damage.

3
Keep a cover on your car when not in use. If possible, store your classic car in a separate garage space to help protect it from accidental dings caused by loading and unloading your regular vehicles.
-
4
Wax your car regularly to help protect the paint. In the case of classic collector cars, it is best to do the waxing by hand as old paint may be delicate.
-
5
Learn as much as you can about car maintenance. If you want to keep a collector car, you should expect to do a large amount of maintenance and repair work on your own (or expect to pay exorbitant fees to specialized mechanics).
