How to Verify SSL Certificates

How to Verify SSL Certificates thumbnail
You can easily verify SSL certificates by using an SSL checker website.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a security protocol that Web servers and Web browsers use to protect Internet users when transferring data on the Internet. For instance, some websites use SSL encryption when you make a payment online to protect your credit or debit card information. In some cases, websites that display an SSL certificate and claim to use SSL encryption to protect your data don't really provide such protection. If you are doubtful about the validity of a website's SSL certificate, you can verify it by using an online SSL checker.

Instructions

  1. SSL Shopper

    • 1

Visit the SSL Shopper website to verify SSL certificates.

    • 2

Look at the text box at the bottom of the page where it says "Server Hostname." Type in the URL of the website that you want to verify the SSL certificate for.

    • 3

Click on the "Check SSL" button next to the text box and the SSL checker will display if the SSL certificate is valid or not.

    Networking4All

    • 4

Go to the Networking4All site and validate SSL certificates using its SSL checker tool.

    • 5

Click the "Support" tab on the top and click "Tools" on the left. Under "Tools," click "Site Check."

    • 6

Enter the URL of the website you want to check in the text field.

    • 7

Click on the "Check Site" tab displayed beside the text field and Networking4All will verify if the SSL certificate for the URL you entered is valid.

    Digicert

    • 8

Navigate to the Digicert home page.

    • 9

Click "Support" on the top of the page and select "See If Your Certificate Is Installed Correctly."

    • 10

Type the URL of your website or the site you want to verify in the text bar located beneath where it says "Server Address (Ex: www.digicert.com)."

    • 11

Click the "Check Server" button displayed below the text bar and Digicert will verify the SSL certificate of the URL you entered.
