Firefox is an open-source Web browser application developed by the Mozilla Corporation. The browser's features include both tabbed and private browsing, live bookmarking and an instant spell checking function that automatically draws attention to any misspelled word as it is typed. Modifying the currently installed add-ons and tweaking the browser's pipelining settings can make Firefox run more than 10 times faster.

Instructions

  1. Add-ons

    • 1

Uninstall any unnecessary add-ons and plug-ins that are currently installed in the Firefox browser. Click "Tools" from the main Firefox toolbar, then select "Add-Ons" to view all the add-ons currently installed. Click on an add-on in the list and then click the "Uninstall" button to remove the add-on.

    • 2

Install the Adblock+ add-on. This add-on is used to block banner and image advertisements that appear on the Internet. With Adblock+ installed, the Firefox browser will no longer download any banner or image ads. This will greatly increase the speed at which pages load.

    • 3

Install the Flashblock add-on. This add-on allows for blocking Flash advertisements, videos and other intrusive Flash objects. With these objects blocked, Firefox's page load time will greatly increase.

    Enable Pipelining

    • 4

Type "about:config" into the Firefox address bar and then press the "Enter" key. Click the button on the confirmation window that appears to enable pipelining.

    • 5

Type "pipelining" into the filter box at the top of the screen. Double-click on "network.http.pipelining" and set the value to "Yes."

    • 6

Double-click on "network.http.pipelining.ssl" and set the value to "Yes." Then double-click on "network.http.proxy.pipelining" and set the value to "Yes."

    • 7

Double-click on "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" from the filter list. Change the number to any number between 6 and 10, depending on how fast the computer's Internet connection is. With pipelining enabled, Firefox will now open multiple connections with a website instead of just one.
