How to Make a Referral Commission From Other People's Sales
Every salesman needs two things: a product to sell and someone to sell it to. The former is not hard to come by but finding customers, however, is the hard part. Consequently, many companies offer referral commissions to individuals who send customers their way. This can either be a fixed fee simply for sending traffic their direction, a fixed fee if the customer makes a purchase, or a percentage of what the customer buys. Making a little less money off of a sale is better for the company than not making the sale at all.

Register your website with an online company that offers affiliate programs. This will allow the company to post advertisements on your website. If someone clicks on the link, then the company will be able to track the user back to your website. You will receive a fixed fee or a percentage commission on the total purchase if the visitor from your site buys something. The SSL company GlobalSign, for example, offers a 15 percent commission on every purchase directed from your site.

Register with a company that offers a real world referral program. These work in a similar fashion to online affiliate programs. If you are a business owner, you can tell your customers about the company with which you registered. Give the customer your business card and ask him to tell the other company you sent him. You can receive a percentage of the profit when he buys, if he provides your name to the seller. LegalMart.com, for example, offers those with physical stores or offices a referral code program. You can give customers the code and direct them to their website. If they include your referral code when they make their purchase, you receive a 10 percent commission on their total purchase.

Apply to a company that offers referral programs to its employees. These programs provide monetary incentives to either recruit other applicants to the company or direct customers to other wings of the business. For example, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has a program offering its rental department employees a fixed monetary bonus if a customer they direct to the company's car sales wing purchases a car.
