My Inspiron Battery Won't Charge

Inspiron is a line of laptops manufactured and developed by Dell. Just like other laptops, you may experience battery problems, especially if you have used the device for a significant amount of time. Several factors such as overheating and using an incompatible AC adapter may result in battery damage.

Instructions

Turn off the laptop. Slide the rectangular/triangular button to remove the cover of the battery compartment. Pull the battery out of its compartment.

    • 2

Inspect the connectors inside the battery compartment as well as the connectors of the battery for any apparent physical damage. If the connectors of the laptop or of the battery are damaged, bring the laptop to the nearest service center. If there is no physical damage, proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Place the battery back into the compartment until it locks into place. Turn on the computer. Plug the AC adapter into the power socket of the laptop and then the other end to a functioning power outlet.

    • 4

Check if the LED lights that indicate power are on. If they do not go up, check the battery icon in your system tray (at the bottom right side). The icon should resemble a power connector, which indicates that the battery is charging. If the battery icon resembles a battery, it means that the battery is not charging.

Remove the battery from the laptop once again and try charging the battery to a similar Dell Inspiron computer if you have access to one. If it charges successfully, the problem may be with the laptop and not with the battery. If the battery does not charge and the laptop/battery is still under warranty, bring it to the local store where you purchased it so that you can have it replaced.
