How to Find People via Federal Census

The federal census is when the government attempts to take a head count of the population of the country. This can be a problematic process, especially given all of those who avoid census takers. However, the census is an official document that can help you find people if you're on a search for specific information. So what you need to do is find a way to search through the census records, looking for a name.

Things You'll Need

• Internet access
• Form BC-600

Instructions

1. Collect all the information you can about the person that you're looking for in the census. You should have that person's full name, birth date and ethnicity. If you have the person's Social Security number, that is even better.

2. Go to the U.S. Census website. This is where you go to have a search of the census records performed on your behalf.

3. Pay the $65 fee for an "age search." Once you pay this fee and send in form BC-600 (see Resources), the government will perform your search in the census records starting with 1910. The results, once the search is completed, will be sent to you.
