You can reinstall system applications from the Mac OS X DVD.

The Apple Mail program, which is known as "Mail.app" within the operating system framework, is automatically installed on all Apple laptop and desktop computers. By default, it is also set as the primary email application. If you have accidentally erased or uninstalled the program but want to get it back, you can use your Mac OS X installation DVD to reinstall it.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the disk labeled "Mac OS X Install DVD" into your computer. This is the DVD that came with your Apple computer.

    • 2

Open the "Optional Installs" folder and then double click on the "Optional Installs Installer" icon.

    • 3

Press the "Continue" button to advance to the next screen.

    • 4

Press "Continue" again, read the license agreement and then click "Agree."

    • 5

Click on the triangle next to "Applications."

    • 6

Select "Mail" from the list of system applications that can be installed.

    • 7

Press "Continue" and then "Install." When prompted, enter your administrative username and password. The DVD will now reinstall the Mail.app program on your computer's hard drive.
