Transmission Drain Location in a Chevrolet

The drain location for the transmission fluid on a Chevy is generally the same, but the way in which the transmission drains varies by model. On some models, there is a drain plug; on others, the fluid drains through the drain pan. The transmission transfers the power from the engine to the wheels, so replacing the transmission fluid at regular intervals is important for keeping the transmission properly lubricated. You are going to need basic tools and around 15 minutes to locate the drain.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the Chevy on level ground with a lot of light. Set the parking brake. Raise the front end of the Chevy using the jack.

    • 2

Lower the Chevy onto jack stands to support it while you work. Slide under the engine and transmission on your back so that you are looking up at the underside of the Chevy.

Look for a thick metal plate or a small metal nut under the transmission. The nut is a drain nut and the plate is the drain plate. Remove either with the appropriate wrench to drain the transmission fluid.
