How Much Horsepower Does a 2002 Mustang Saleen Extreme Have?
Saleen Autosport, founded in 1981 by racing driver Steve Saleen, first produced its custom blend of high-performance race cars in 1984. The Saleen Mustangs are known for their exceptional horsepower. This particular brand of car has been featured in a number of films, including "2 Fast 2 Furious" (2003) and "Transformers" (2007). The 2002 Saleen Mustang Extreme has a horsepower of 445 and is the world's highest production Mustang.

Consult the car manual to determine the model and year of the vehicle to find out how much horsepower a specific brand of Saleen Mustang has. You may also wish to contact the dealer you purchased the vehicle from so that you have an expert's analysis. The S281 and S351 models might not appear drastically different to the casual viewer but they have different horsepower ratings, with the S351 model at 495 horsepower, opposed to the S281 with a rating of 465 horsepower. If the car has a rear spoiler on the back of the car, then it's the earlier S351 model and not the newer, more aerodynamic S281.

Compare the parts listed in the car's manual with those found in the vehicle to determine if there are any differences from the parts the car was manufactured with. The best way to find out if the vehicle has been customized is to discuss the car's maintenance and repair log with its current owners. Another option is to consult a car expert and take inventory of the car's major systems, including the engine, transmission and fuel pump. In one case, Saleen Mustang owners Jake Lamotta and Jay Meagher took a 2002 model and made several changes, customizing the fuel pump, clutch and brakes to give the car a horsepower rating closer to 500.

Take the car for a drive. Given that there were only 62 Saleen Mustang S281s produced in 2002, the opportunity to drive one is rare. You won't be able to determine the horsepower from just driving the car, but actually driving one of these vehicles will give you a great feel for what 445 horsepower feels like.
