How to Test Proficiency in Microsoft Applications

Microsoft offers aspiring workers a proficiency test in skills they have with various Microsoft products. Passing this exam, which is a live demonstration taken at a local Certiport office, grants you a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. A MOS certification shows a person's commitment to learning every crevice of what Microsoft Office has to offer.

      Locate a nearby Certiport office (see Resources).

      Register for the exam through Certiport or Prometric (see Resources). Call the provided number and provide your name, address, phone number, desired certification and any other information requested.

      Prepare for the exam. The Microsoft website offers numerous preparation guides to use for training (see Resources). Make sure you have the fees to pay for the exam; as of 2010, Project exams are $115, and all other exams are $92.

      Take the exam. This will take about 90 minutes, and you are instructed throughout the whole test. Whether you passed or not is displayed on the screen upon completion.
