How to Upgrade the CPU on an Eee PC

The central processing unit is essentially the brain of your Eee PC desktop computer. Upgrading your CPU will increase the performance output of your Eee PC. To upgrade your CPU, you will need to purchase a compatible CPU with a faster FSB (front-side bus) speed and MHz. You can purchase processors at any local computer electronics store. Upgrading the CPU in your Eee PC will take about 45 minutes to complete.

      Turn off your Eee PC and remove the power cord.

      Remove the side of your computer case by removing the two screws that secure it.

      Release the tension bracket, and then disconnect the power cable and remove your heat sink.

      Lift up the lever next to your processor, and then remove your processor.

      Place your new CPU in the chamber and lower the level.

      Place a drop of thermal paste in the exact center of your processor. Replace the heat sink.

      Replace the side of your computer case.
