How to Open an Old Chat Box Message in Facebook
Information comes at you from all directions on Facebook. Invitations, updates and even email messages can relate some important social or business information. Sometimes messages from a chat box with a friend or associate might contain important material that you will need later. The Facebook chat boxes contain a history of messages both received and sent. Opening a Facebook chat box and looking up old messages allows you to find the individual messages in an entire chat history.

Log on to your Facebook account by entering in the email address registered for the account and your password.

Click on a box to the left of the "Chat" box at the bottom right-hand corner of your homepage to open a conversation history. Each tab is labeled by the person's name with whom you were having the conversation. These boxes are both chat histories and chats in progress.

Scroll down in the conversation to find previous messages that have been sent and received.

Tips & Warnings
Clicking the "Erase Chat History" option will delete all messages for that particular chat history. You cannot recover messages after deleting them.
