How to Program a Tahoe Remote Start

If your Chevrolet Tahoe comes equipped with a keyless entry system and remote starter, you can start the engine using the keyless remote. You must program this remote to the Tahoe before the wireless functions will work. Once programmed, pressing the specified combination of buttons on the remote will cause the Tahoe engine to crank up. Tahoe models use the dashboard graphic console known as the Driver Information Center, or DIC, to program a keyless remote.

Things You'll Need

  • Keyless remote
  • Ignition key
  • Open the Tahoe's driver side door and be sure the Tahoe is in park.

  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it as far is it will go before the engine cranks.

  • Press in the trip odometer reset stem, which is located on the odometer panel behind the steering wheel. Keep holding it until you see "RELEARN REMOTE KEY" appear on the DIC.

  • Press the trip odometer stem again and hold it down for three seconds until you see "REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE" appear on the DIC.

  • Press down the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on your keyless remote for around 15 seconds until you hear a chime from the Tahoe. This sound confirms that you have programmed the remote.

  • Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position and remove it from the ignition. This will exit the programming mode.

  • Exit the car and test the remote starter function.
