How to Disable "Screen Saver is Active" in Registry

The ScreenSaveActive file in the Windows Registry Editor is responsible for whether or not the screen saver runs on the computer. By default, all Windows computers have an active screen saver. You can control the screen saver settings through the Control Panel, but those interested in how the Windows registry works can control the settings through Registry Editor. A single numerical change can deactivate the screen saver until you make further changes.

  • Open the Start menu and click on the search box. Type "regedit" into the search box and press Enter. The Registry Editor should open automatically.

  • Click on the folder titled "HKEY_USERS" one time.

  • Open the "Edit" menu at the top of the window and select "Find."

  • Type "ScreenSaveActive" into the search box and press Enter. This will automatically take you to the file you need.

  • Right-click on the "ScreenSaveActive" title and select "Modify." Change the value to "0" and click "OK" to confirm the settings. You can close the Registry Editor once you make the changes.
