How to Convert an INDD to a DOC
InDesign is a professional-grade desktop publishing application included in Adobe Systems' Creative Suite of visual design and development products. The program allows you to create print-formatted documents such as brochures, reports, forms and newsletters. InDesign saves these publications in its native INDD format, which cannot be directly edited in another program. To allow someone to work with the contents of an InDesign file in Microsoft Word, first export the contents to a PDF file and then convert the PDF to Word's native DOC format using one of three free, Web-based conversion tools.

Export InDesign File to PDF Format

Click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Open." Locate your INDD file in the resulting window and then open it.

Click "File" again and select "Export."

Give the PDF file a name, select a save location, select "Adobe PDF (Print)" from the "Save as type" drop-down menu and then click "Save."

Leave the default settings unchanged in the resulting window and then click "Export." Your InDesign file is exported to PDF format, generally within a few seconds.
Convert PDF using PDF to Word

Open a Web browser and navigate to the PDF to Word website.

Click the "Choose File" button, locate the newly created PDF file in the resulting window and then select it by double-clicking its icon.

Select the ".DOC" conversion option.

Enter your email address in the adjacent field.

Click the "Convert" button. The PDF file is uploaded to the site, converted to DOC format and then emailed to the address you provided.
Convert PDF Using Zamzar

Open a Web browser and navigate to the Zamzar website.

Click the "Choose File" button, locate the newly created PDF file in the resulting window and then select it by double-clicking its icon.

Select the "doc" conversion option from the drop-down menu.

Enter your email address in the adjacent field.

Click the "Convert" button. The PDF file is uploaded to the site, converted to DOC format and then a download link is emailed to the address you provided.
Convert PDF using PDF2Word Online

Open a Web browser and navigate to the PDF2Word Online website.

Click the "Choose File" button, locate the newly created PDF file in the resulting window and then select it by double-clicking its icon.

Click the "Upload and Convert" button.

Right-click the "Right-click here" link and save the resulting ZIP archive to your computer when prompted by your browser. The archive contains the converted DOC file.
