Adding furniture and other objects is easy using AutoCAD's DesignCenter.

Adding any predrawn object into AutoCAD is now extremely easy. Using the DesignCenter you can drag objects straight into your drawing. Online there are many libraries of reusable content such as furniture, some free and some that must be paid for. All of these help the AutoCAD maxim "Never draw the same thing twice."

Instructions

  1. Instructions

    • 1

In AutoCAD 2007, open the drawing you wish to insert furniture into. Make sure you know the location of the drawing containing the furniture objects (blocks in AutoCAD parlance).

    • 2

Open the DesignCenter by pressing "Ctrl"+"2" or typing "adcenter," then pressing "Enter."

    • 3

Using the folders pane in the DesignCenter, navigate to the drawing that holds the furniture blocks.

    • 4

Click the drawing name, then "Blocks" when it appears below the drawing name.

    • 5

The right pane of the DesignCenter will show thumbnail previews of the Blocks in the drawing. Drag the required block into the drawing area.

    • 6

At the prompts, select where you wish to place the block, and its rotation and scale.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that your drawing and the objects you are inserting use the same units or are unitless. If they are not the same, rescale them.

  • If you have a drawing file of an object, such as furniture, that is not a block, you can still use it using the "Insert" command.
