How to Test Streaming Media

When you stream media from a server, testing is a part of the final setup procedure. The Windows operating system has Media Player installed, and you can use it to test your streaming media. Media Player lets you open your shared files in the software's libraries, and you can play songs or videos from the streaming server for a quick test.

  • Click the Windows "Start" button. Click "All Programs," then click "Media Player." This opens your Windows media software.

  • Click the "Organize" button. In the drop-down menu, click "Customize navigation pane." This opens the dialog box.

  • Click "Other Libraries" from the drop-down menu. Check the box labeled "Show other libraries." This enables the media server libraries in Media Player. Click "OK."

  • Click the server media library detected and listed on the left side of the window. Click it to view your music. Double-click a music file to test it and play it.
