How to Use Air Sharing on an iPhone

Air Sharing is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to share files between your computer and phone. It also serves as an external hard drive. Air Sharing allows users to view documents in a variety of formats, including PDF, Microsoft Word, and HTML. You can download Air Sharing from the iTunes App Store. To use Air Sharing, you must have access to a Wi-Fi Internet connection, Mac OS 10.4.11 or later, or Windows XP or later.

Changing Air Sharing settings

  • Change Air Sharing settings. Open Air Sharing and touch "Settings" at the bottom of the screen.

  • Turn the sharing options to "On."

  • If you desire, create a password by touching "Require Password" and turning it to on. You can now select a password.

  • Open the "Connection Help" menu on the Air Sharing page. Note the IP Address and URL for connection.

Connecting Air Sharing on a Mac

  • Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi. From your iPhone's home screen, touch "Settings" to access your wireless network settings. Touch "Wi-Fi" and choose the network you wish to connect to.

  • Connect your computer to Wi-Fi or network connection. If you have a Mac, simply click the Wi-Fi icon on the task menu. Join the same network you joined on your iPhone.

  • Hover your mouse over your computer's dock and open the "Finder" menu. Press "Command," also known as the "Apple button," and "K" to bring up the "Connect to Server" menu on your computer.

  • Enter the IP address you have noted from the "Connection Help" screen into the box labeled "Server Address" and press "Ok." Your iPhone will now appear under "Shared," labeled as its IP address.

  • Open the file or folder you wish to share with your iPhone. Drag and drop them to your iPhone for access through Air Share.

Connecting Air Sharing on a PC

  • Add the Air Sharing network. Click the "Start" button and select "My Network Places."

  • Click "Add a network place" and enter Air Sharing's IP address, which you can find in the "Connection Help" section of your Air Sharing application on your phone.

  • Complete the network addition. Name the network, click "Next" and check "Open this network when I finish." Click "Finish" to complete adding the Air Sharing network.

  • Drag and drop the files you wish to share. Open the folder where document or files you want to share are stored. Right-click the file or document and select "Copy." Right-click the Air Sharing network folder and select "Paste."
