How to Use a Telephone As an Intercom

Save

A cordless telephone makes it easier to move around a particular location while using the phone. You also have the ability to use the phone as an intercom when you own more than one handset. After connecting the phone's base to an electrial outlet and to a phone jack, you can use the telephone as an intercom.

  • Connect the central cordless phone base to a phone jack by using a standard phone cable and the power cord to an electrical outlet.

  • Connect the power cord for the base of each handset, wherever it is located in the house, to an electrical outlet.

  • Pick up a handset from its base. If it illuminates, it means the phone line is in use, so wait 10 seconds for it to turn off. When it turns off, push the intercom function button to call a separate handset. This causes all handsets in the house to ring and enables you to reach a person close to another handset through the intercom function. Talk in the same manner as on a regular phone call.

  • Push the phone's disconnect button to end the intercom process.
