How to Build a Good Magic Deck
A "Magic: The Gathering" deck consists of between 50 and 60 cards encompassing creatures, spells and artifacts used to defeat your opponent in battle. As of October 2010 there are over 30 sets of cards to draw from when creating your deck, so you must narrow down the available cards to a collection that best fits your play style while being powerful enough to take out your opponent's own deck of cards. A good deck should be able to deliver damage while also preventing retaliation to keep you in the game. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Divide your Magic cards into their respective colors. The game contains blue, black, white, red, green, colorless and multi-colored cards.
-
2
Pick one or two colors to build your deck with. For example, choose a combination of white and blue cards. You can also insert colorless cards into any deck.
-
-
3
Set aside 20 land cards for your deck. In a blue and white deck you should have 10 Islands to cast your blue spells and 10 Plains to cast your white spells.
-
4
Insert at least five creatures into your deck with a power and toughness rating of at least 3/3. For example, use the 4/4 Air Elemental and the 3/3 Loxodon Mystic. Use these creatures as your damage dealers.
-
5
Insert seven to ten creatures with a power and toughness of 2/2 and below, such as Suntail Hawk and Briarberry Cohort. Both are 1/1 creatures that you can summon quickly and use to deal continuous damage while awaiting your damage dealers.
-
6
Add three to five spell cards to your deck that enhance the power or toughness of your creatures. Serra's Embrace, for example, gives one creature a +2/+2 boost while Holy Strength grants a +1/+2 boost.
-
7
Insert four spell cards that alter the battlefield, such as Neck Snap that destroys an attacking or blocking creature or Robe of Mirrors that causes a creature to avoid any spells or abilities cast upon it.
-
8
Fill out your deck with card combinations. For example, cast Day of the Dragons, which replaces all creatures you control with 5/5 Dragon creatures. Cast Standardize to turn the Dragons into another creature type, then cast Disperse to return Day of the Dragons to your hand, keeping the Dragon creatures and putting all of your replaced creatures back into play, doubling your attack force.
