How to Erase a DVD-R Dl


With Windows 7 it is easy to erase the data from a DVD dual layer (Dl) disc. Windows 7 can erase any type of rewritable disc (DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD±RW, and CD-RW). You do not need any additional software to erase the contents of such a disc and you can perform the task from "Computer." This is useful if you use a blank DVD as a disc to keep backups of data on and want to renew the backup.

  • Place the dual layer DVD into your disc burning and authoring drive.

  • Click on the Windows logo or "Start."

  • Click on "Computer," then select the disc in the devices window.

  • Right-click the dual layer DVD and click "Erase this disc." Click "Next" and then "Finish" to erase your disc's contents.
