How to Disable or Uninstall MathType


MathType is an equation editor for Windows and Mac systems; it let's you create mathematical notations that you can then insert into a variety of documents. Without MathType (or a similar application), you'll be forced to manually create your equations. Not only is this time inefficient, but you may not even be able to use the symbols you need to craft an equation. If you've found a replacement program or simply don't wish to use MathType anymore, you can easily uninstall it.

Windows Systems

  • Open your "Start" menu and select "Control Panel." If you don't see it, look under "Settings."

  • Click "Programs and Features."

  • Click "MathType" from the list by clicking on it. Once highlighted, click the "Uninstall" button. Follow any instructions given to you by the uninstaller to complete the process.

Mac Systems

  • Double-click your hard drive on the desktop.

  • Open "Applications" and search for the MathType folder.

  • Drag the folder onto the "Trash" icon. Confirm that you want to uninstall the program when prompted to do so.
