How to Find Auctions That Are Close to Where I Live
From finding a treasured vintage toy to loading up on antiques to sell to purchasing prime real estate for a cheap price, auctions have many uses and are often a form of treasure-hunting. Live auctions can be especially exciting, particularly when you out-bid the competition for a coveted item. While online auctions are only a mouse click away, a little research is required to find a live auction near you.

1
Search for auctions by type, such as real estate, antique or car auctions. Calling financial institutions and banks in your town is a way of inquiring about cars that were recently confiscated for nonpayment of loans and will likely be up for auction soon, for example. Auction.com is a good resource for finding real estate auctions in your area.

2
Read the classifieds in all available local newspapers to find out about scheduled government auctions. Finding out which day these ads appear will speed up the process.

Search for nearby auctions through many online resources such as Auction Zip.com, a live-auction locator. Auction Services.com provides information on live and online auctions by state and by category, such as antiques, coins and stamps, cars, jewelry and livestock. Buy It Nearby.com combines eBay and craigslist auctions "overlaid onto a Google map in a given area" according to One Man's Blog.com. You enter the name of the item you're looking for and a map with clickable pins will pop up featuring descriptions of items for sale at each location. Another site that lists auctions is ePier.
