How to Clear a SIM on a Samsung Cell Phone

SIM cards are used to identity your phone to the mobile network. They are also used as memory chips to store text messages and contact details. You may find that you need to clear out the memory on your SIM card from time to time. This can be easily done, manually through your Samsung mobile phone. Though it may differ slightly from model to model, the process is basically the same.

  • Insert the SIM card that you wish to clear into your Samsung mobile phone. It goes into the metal gate underneath the phone's battery.

  • Press "Menu" and select "Settings." Scroll down to the bottom of the menu until you find a "Reset" option. Select this, then enter the necessary security codes. These will be in your Samsung manual. If you can't find them, contact Samsung customer service from their website (see Resource links) and press "OK." A prompt will follow asking you which data you wish to clear and reset. This includes your calendar, text messages, contacts, reminders and notes. You can clear these individually--or, to clear all of these, select the "Reset All" option.

  • Press "Back" several times until you are on the main menu list once again. Scroll down and choose "Phonebook." Choose "Manage Contacts" and select "Delete All" from your SIM memory.

  • Press "Back" again until you return to your main menu list once more. Scroll down and select "Messages." From the sub-menu, select "Settings." Then, scroll down and search the following menu items for the "Delete Folders" option.  You will then be provided with a list of your message folders including "Inbox," "Sent Messages" and "Received Messages."  Tick the "All Messages" selection and press "Delete." Confirm your action by pressing "OK" on the prompt that follows asking you if you are sure of your action.

  • Press "Back" until you are directed to your main menu list again. Scroll down and access "Call Log." From the menu options that follows, scroll down and click on "Settings" or "Call Log Options."  Afterwards, you should be able to see the "Delete Logs" option. You are asked to tick on items that you wish to clear such as "Received Calls" and "Missed Calls." Tick "Delete All" and confirm your actions by pressing "OK." Once done, your SIM card is now cleared of all of its contents.
