How to Improve the Mileage on a Jeep 4.7
A 4.7-liter V8 motor was produced by Dodge/Chrysler and used in several different Jeep and Dodge vehicles, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Liberty, Jeep Commander, Dodge Dakota and Dodge Durango. Sometimes referred to as the "semi-Hemi," the 4.7 is known more for power than for fuel economy. In 2006, Fuel Economy, the government website that tracks vehicle's gas mileage information, listed the 4.7 as getting somewhere between 13 and 18 miles to the gallon, which is quite low considering that most of the vehicles it powers are mid-size sport utility vehicles. Fortunately, there are several things 4.7 owners can do to keep their Jeep vehicle's gas mileage closer to the 18 mark than the 13 mark.

1
Take car of your 4.7-liter engine by maintaining it correctly. Your Jeep needs regular tune-ups, oil changes and repairs to stay in its best running condition. If your motor is not in good condition, it will consume more fuel while powering your Jeep.
-
2
Turn off the air conditioner. Running your air conditioner makes your motor work harder and use more gasoline.
-
-
3
Maintain your tires properly, making sure they are adequately inflated and that your wheels are in proper alignment. Underinflated tires and out-of-alignment wheels can add drag to your vehicle, making your motor use more fuel to provide the same amount of power.
-
4
Maintain steady speeds when driving. There is a reason a car's highway mileage is higher than its city mileage.
-
5
Turn off your 4.7-liter motor if you are not actively moving. Do not let your Jeep idle in one location for more than a minute or two. Idling reduces the amount of fuel you have to use and pollutes the environment with emissions.
