How to Change Your Welcome Name on a Kindle

Save

When you first register your Kindle, you create a name for the device. This is the name that appears in the upper left corner of the device's screen and on the Welcome screen. The first time you connect the Kindle to Wi-Fi, the device syncs this name and other user information to Amazon's servers. To change the name of the device, you must log in to your Amazon account and edit the user information associated with your Kindle.

  • Open a new Web browser tab on your computer and log in to your Amazon account. If you've never logged in via the Amazon website before, click the "Your Account" button in the top-right corner and enter the email address and password associated with your Kindle in the username and password fields.

  • Click the "Manage Your Kindle" link on the Your Account menu on the left side of the screen.

  • Click the "Manage Your Devices" link located under the Your Kindle Account heading.

  • Click the name of the Kindle device you want to edit. If you have multiple Kindles, they will all be listed under the Manage Your Devices heading.

  • Click the "Edit" link located next to the current name associated with the Kindle. The name is located under the Kindle Name heading.

  • Enter the new name you want to appear on the Welcome screen, then click the "Update" button.

  • Connect to a Wi-Fi signal on your Kindle to have the device sync with the Amazon server. Restart the device when you are finished.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your Kindle automatically connects to Wi-Fi networks it has used in the past. If you've never connected to a Wi-Fi signal before, do so by swiping down from the top of the Kindle's screen and tapping "Wireless." Toggle the "Wi-Fi" switch to the On position, if necessary, then tap the network you want to join. If the network is protected, you will be prompted to enter its password.
