How to Make Ahead & Freeze Appetizers

Nowadays people are busier than ever, balancing work, parenting, socializing and school among other responsibilities. Often, cooking becomes a chore that is sacrificed to other more-pressing tasks. Cooking appetizers several days or weeks ahead of time is a solution when planning to give a party or entertain several guests.

Things You'll Need

  • Appetizer recipe
  • Zip-close bags, 1-gallon size
  • Chose the appetizer you plan to make. Keep in mind that appetizers such as cheese plates, fruits and veggies do not freeze and thaw well and should be prepared on the day of or the day before your gathering. Foods that consist heavily of dough, milk and/or cheese freeze and thaw well and taste just as fresh as they would if they were made the day of your gathering. Japanese potstickers, broccoli-cheese dip, quiche and breads are some appetizers that freeze well.

  • Prepare your appetizer. You have two options when preparing your appetizer: You can prepare the appetizers completely, let them cool and freeze them, or you can prepare them to a certain point and freeze them. For instance, breads need to bake for several hours. You can prepare the dough and freeze it, thawing and baking the bread on the day of or day before a gathering. The same goes for other dough-based appetizers, such as potstickers, cookies and quiches.

  • Freeze your appetizers. Use any brand of 1-gallon zip-close bags, securing the bag tightly to prevent freezer burn.
