Save

Socializing online on a service such as Yahoo! Messenger is a fun way to connect with friends and share what you're doing. Music, videos, funny messages and avatars are all ways to personalize your chat experience and let your friends and family know what you are up to. Displaying the music you are listening to so your friends can see it is now possible, and setting it up only requires a few simple steps.

Option 1: Yahoo Plug In

  • Open Yahoo! Messenger. Click on the "Actions" tab at the top of the Messenger window. Scroll down the list to "Choose Plug Ink," and click on it.

  • Select Yahoo! Music, and click "Start" to the right of the panel. A new information panel will open in the bottom of your Messenger panel.

  • Select the station you wish to listen to. Several choices will show in the panel, and a button is available for "All Stations" if you don't see a selection you like. Once you choose a station, songs will automatically be displayed in your status message as they play.

Option 2: External Plug In

  • Download a program such as Winamp, or FoxyTunes from Yahoo! Music.

  • Click the link on Yahoo! Music to install the FoxyTunes application. A new panel opens on the Messenger box at the bottom, and you can set up your music selections from there.

  • Download Winamp from the site link. Install the program. Open Winamp, and click "Preferences" or click "CTRL + P". Choose "Yahoo! Messenger Now Playing" from the menu. Configure the information you want displayed from the menu.
