How to Adjust a Sandblaster
Sandblasters are useful tools for home construction, automotive painting, or even in the making of fine design elements such as sandblasted glass. However, many sandblasters lack adjustment controls and must be adjusted in other ways. Knowing how to adjust a sandblaster is crucial for fine-tuning the output and getting the results you want. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Sandblasting medium
- Air compressor
- Replacement sandblaster nozzles
- Safety glasses
- Respirator
Instructions
-
-
1
Fill the sandblaster with the medium you wish to use. A variety of media besides sand may be used in a sandblaster.
-
2
Connect an air compressor to the sandblaster.
-
-
3
Turn on the power to the air compressor.
-
4
Put on safety glasses and a respirator.
-
5
Spray the surface of the object for a few seconds. Stop and assess the speed and intensity of the flow of sand.
-
6
Adjust the pressure setting on the air compressor. Increasing the pressure will make for a harder, more concentrated stream. Decreasing the pressure will create a softer, less concentrated stream. Experiment with different pressure settings until you find the optimal setting.
-
7
Change the sandblaster nozzle. A smaller nozzle will increase the pressure and make a more concentrated stream. A larger nozzle will decrease the pressure and result in a less concentrated stream. Experiment with nozzles of different sizes until you find the optimal size for your task.

Tips & Warnings
Use safety glasses and a respirator at all times during the operation of the sandblaster. Make sure the respirator's filters are fresh and the seals are functioning.
