   Request a domain name using a provider such as GoDaddy.com. The home page here has a search box to search for available domain names. You can choose endings besides .com, .org, .net, .edu and .info. Enter the domain name's web address excluding the www portion in the search box. Hit the "Go" button.

   Choose an unusual domain name to increase the chances of it being available.

   If the domain name you have entered is not available, GoDaddy's site will suggest other combinations. Once you have a domain name that is not taken, place a check in the box next to it. Hit the "Continue to Register" button and a new page will appear to enable you to register the domain name.

   The registration information you use is available to the public unless you buy a privacy policy.

   Enter the required information in the form on the right of the screen. Information enter into this form will be publicly visible through the Whois Registration tracker. Enter a web address of a working website into the Whois Lookup search box on the Whois site. You will see ownership information displayed. By placing information in the domain registration form, you will be giving your information to Whois and the public. Continue to choose domain settings such as duration of registration and price package. In the section labeled "Your Privacy and Domain Protection," you can make personal information private by buying a privacy protection policy. Finally, you are given the option of buying email addresses and web space for a website before hitting the "Next" button to go to "Checkout." Once you bought the domain name, you will be given settings options, including the ability to aim the domain name at any URL or web address.

   There are many domain name providers on the internet.

   There are different domain vendors available to shop around for the best deal. Another is Active-Domain.com, which contains domain names registered in the past eight years. If a domain provider is down, the domain name will not redirect to a web address it is pointed it to. It is important to buy domain names from companies with stable servers so that the redirect is reliable.
