How to Use the Brother MFC-490CW Fax

The Brother MFC 490CW is a multi-functional, color inkjet printer with wireless printing capabilities. The Brother 490CW is an all-in-one device, capable of printing, faxing, scanning, direct picture printing and copying. It prints at speeds of up to 33 pages per minute. As a fax machine, the Brother MFC 490 CW transmits and receives faxes using its G3 fax board with an impressive baud rate speed of 33.6K bps.

Instructions

1. Connect the phone line. The line must be connected to the wall jack and into the "Line In" jack on the back of the Brother 490CW.

2. Press the "Fax" button on the front panel of the printer. This will put the printer in the fax mode. You need to be in the fax mode prior to sending a fax, but the 490CW will receive an incoming fax while in any of the operating modes.

3. Load documents face down into the document feeder. The document feeder will hold up to 30 pages.

4. Enter the fax number to which you wish to send your document. Use the numbered keypad on the left-hand side of the front of the printer.

5. Press "Enter." This will scan the document and dial the entered number. Once the telephone connection is made, the unit will continue to scan your documents and will begin transmitting them to the connected fax machine.

6. Retrieve your documents when the faxing is completed.
