How to Make a MacBook Invisible to Other MacBooks

Hide your MacBook from other users on your network by disabling file sharing.

File sharing on your MacBook is a feature that allows other Macintosh computers to access your computer when using the same wireless network. If you are not using file sharing to send or receive files from alternate users, the feature should be disabled, as your computer is vulnerable to access from others when using the Internet in a public location. When file sharing is disabled, your computer is hidden from other users in the Finder window. The function can be turned on or off through your computer's system preferences.

Instructions

1. Click "Apple" and "System Preferences" on the desktop's menu bar.

2. Select the "Sharing" icon.

3. Click the "File Sharing" check box in the "On" column to uncheck the file sharing tool. Click the lock icon to restrict changes from being made to your preferences, and exit the sharing window.
