Instructions

    • 1

Line up all the ends of the different ribbons you are using. Secure the ends of the ribbons to one end of a wooden dowel with a thumb tack. Wrap the ribbons around the dowel, covering the entire rod. Trim the ribbons to length, and secure the ends to the bottom of the dowel with another thumb tack.

    • 2

Cut several strips of ribbon in lengths varying from 1 to 2 feet. Ten to 12 pieces of ribbon make a full ribbon wand. Line up the ends of the ribbon at one end. Remove one of the thumb tacks from one end of the dowel, and pierce all the strips of ribbon with the thumb tack before replacing it in the end of the dowel.

    • 3

Cut the stems from four to six silk hydrangeas so only the flower parts are left.

    • 4

Glue a silk hydrangea to the end of the wooden dowel with the strips of ribbon hanging from it. Tie silk hydrangeas to the ends of three to five of the strips of ribbon to complete your flower wand.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use other types of silk flowers, but hydrangeas look best because of their ball-like shape. Flowers that aren't ball shaped will show more of the less beautiful underside of the flower.

  • Further embellish your wand by adding lace, tulle, bows, buttons or even glitter to it.
