How to Start the RPC Server From the Console

Windows uses the RPC, or Remote Procedure Call, server service for a variety of system functions. If you stop or disable the RPC server service, you can't move desktop icons, access the list of installed services to start it manually or view the event log. Important system services such as the Windows Installer and Network Connections services also won't function. If the RPC server isn't running, you might not even be able to log into your computer. You can start the RPC server from the Windows Recovery Console.
