How to Uninstall the Creative Update Driver Utility

Creative's device and update drivers are installed when a new sound card is added to your system. The drivers help the operating system communicate with the sound card, and most driver packages include manufacturer designed software to customize the sound. Update drivers may still remain in system folders after a sound card has been uninstalled and can cause conflicts with other system software if they are not removed completely.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel."

    • 2

Double-click on the "Programs and Features" icon. Search through the list of programs for anything installed by the Creative company.

    • 3

Click on each Creative entry, then click "Change/Remove" and select "Uninstall" to remove the software from the computer. This will remove most of the files, but some device drivers may remain.

    • 4

Close the Programs and Features window.

    • 5

Double-click on the "Device Manager" icon. Scroll through the list of devices in the "Sound, Video, and Game Controller" category and right-click on each Creative entry and select uninstall. Once this is complete, restart the computer to remove all the excess driver files.
