How to Change the Background Color on a Garmin 255W GPS

The Garmin 255W GPS was designed with the option to change the background color of the display. Natural light during daylight hours may make it difficult to read the LCD screen, so a lighter screen color is needed. At night, a darker background color is needed so the GPS unit does not distract you when driving. Switch the color on the Garmin 255W to increase the visibility of the GPS unit.

Instructions

1. Tap "Tools," "Settings" and "Display" on the Garmin 255W LCD screen. A list of display options will appear on the screen.

2. Select "Color Mode" from the list of options in the "Display" menu.

3. Touch the color option that you wish to use for your Garmin 255W. Your options include "Daytime," which is a light background color, "Nighttime," which is a dark background color, and "Auto," which switches between the two color modes automatically, depending on the time.

4. Return to the map screen by pressing the "Back" button four times.
