How to Use Email to Send Text

Just because you don't have a cell phone doesn't mean you can't send a text message. Using your email address you can send text messages to any person as long as you know the cell phone number and service provider. Instead of sending the email to an email address, you send it to a phone number.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an Internet browser of your choice. Visit your email provider's website and log in using your user name and password. Click "Compose" or "New Message."

    • 2

In the "To" box type the phone number of the recipient followed by the "@" sign. Follow this by the provider's email address. Examples would include:

      AT&T "@txt.att.net"

      Virgin Mobile "@vmobl.com"

      T-Mobile "@tmomail.net"

      Boost "@myboostmobile.com"

      Sprint "@messaging.sprintpcs.com"

    • 3

Type a short message in the body of the email and click "Send."

Tips & Warnings

  • When sending text messages by email, remember to keep them short.

  • Type the phone numbers beginning with the numeral "1" and without hyphens or spaces separating the digits.
