How to Talk to a Boy

How to Talk to a Boy thumbnail
Talking to a boy can be easy if you know how.

Whether you are just looking to socialize or trying to attract a boy, it can be easy to get tongue-tied or become uncomfortable around a boy, particularly if you're interested in him. However, talking to a boy is no different than talking to anyone else. If you think about what you are going to say, you should be able to have an easy going conversation with him in no time.

Instructions

  1. Talking to Boys

    • 1

Go to a place where you are likely to interact with boys. Sports games, dances and other school social activities or clubs are excellent choices.

    • 2

Initiate a conversation. Prepare some topics to talk about. If the boy is involved in a particular sport, asking him about his team is always a good starting point. You can also talk about current movies, professional sports, or extra-curricular activities that you both enjoy. Make yourself approachable.

    • 3

Smile at the boy and maintain eye contact when you talk to him. In general, people prefer to be around people who seem to want their company. Do not cross your arms in front of your body or stand with your feet wide apart since these positions make you look less approachable and intimidating.

    • 4

Show interest in what he has to say. Use gestures to indicate you are listening to him and interject comments during the conversation. Ask questions that allow him to expand on what he is talking about.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are approaching a boy and are nervous, try initiating the conversation a few minutes before a school bell is about to ring or towards the end of a social activity to ensure that it's a short conversation. As you become more comfortable, you will not worry about keeping your conversations brief.

  • Do not spend too much time talking about yourself.

  • If you are interested in the boy, do not discuss old boyfriends or past relationships.
