How to Install an Intel CPU Fan & an Asus Rampage Formula Motherboard
The Asus Rampage series is a line of high-performance, feature-filled motherboards for PC gamers, overclockers and performance enthusiasts. Users almost always load them down with powerful, high-end equipment. What most CPU cooler makers won't tell you is that the cooler included with your new Intel CPU is more than capable of even heavy graphics performance. You only need an aftermarket cooler if you plan to do some extensive overclocking. Before modifying your computer's hardware, you need a basic familiarity with computer components.

1
Remove all power and data cables from your computer and place it on a clean, sturdy table. Use your Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws from the back of the computer access panel. Remove the panel and set it aside.
-
2
Unplug any power or data cords that are blocking access to the CPU bay. Note their location for reassembly later. If you already have a third-party cooler installed, unscrew it from the motherboard, remove the power cable and pull it out of your computer's case. See your third-party cooler's instruction manual for more details.

3
Remove any thermal paste residue from the top of the process or with a coin or razor blade. Place a pea-sized drop of new thermal paste in the center of the CPU.
-
4
Fit the Intel CPU cooler into place, matching the contact plate with the top of the CPU and the plastic screws with their mount holes. Screw down the plastic screws with your flathead screwdriver. You may have to press down gently on the screws to get them to catch.
-
5
Plug the CPU cooler power cord into its jack on the motherboard. Replace any power or data cables that you removed in Step 2. Place the access panel back onto the computer case, slide it into its original position, and screw it in.
-
6
Reconnect your computer's power and data cables. Turn it on and check that the boot process starts normally.
