How to Send an Electronic Return Receipt in Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook electronic return receipts let you know whether someone has received your email. Return receipts are known as "read receipts." These read receipts must be activated because they are turned off by default. Read receipts populate your Inbox after the email recipient either opens your email or deletes the message without reading it. If the email recipient reads the message, you will get the read receipt stating "Read." If he deletes the message without reading it, you will get a read receipt stating "Not Read."
